On Saturday Help-Portrait will help build self-esteem of Binghamton area residents most needing it

A new charitable activity is coming to the Binghamton area this Saturday, December 10. It is Help-Portrait, a movement of photographers and others who are using their time, equipment, and expertise to give back to those who are less fortunate this holiday season.

They will set up photography stations and give the less fortunate families of the Binghamton area the ability to get high quality professional photos made of their families and walk out with a printed photo without cost to them.

The portraits will be made on a first come, first served basis from noon to 4 p.m. at the City Light Café, 254 Washington Street, in Binghamton (near the Forum Theatre, across the street from Binghamton First Assembly Church).
• Hair and makeup artists will be there to provide free makeovers for the women prior to having their photos taken
• Several professional photographers with lights and backgrounds will be taking pictures
• Several professional photo editors will be there to touch up the photos and print them on-site
• Each family will walk out with a professionally printed photo for the holidays
• All of the makeup artists, photographers, photo editors, and others involved in this project will be donating their time and expertise.

This program is targeted to those who are most in need of a boost to their self-esteem: the unemployed, the homeless, those living in temporary housing, recovering alcoholics, former drug addicts, and similar people who have had a tough life. In short, the people who probably have never been the subject of a photographic portrait and could not afford to purchase one. The local photographer who is heading up the planning for the Binghamton session this Saturday is Rene Diaz of Our Dreams Photography.

This program has helped to raise the self-esteem of hundreds of people in many other communities. Now it is our community’s turn. Those involved in this effort firmly believe in what they are trying to do. This is a first time event for the Binghamton area. I think we all want it to be a success!

Please share information about this program with all those who meet the basic qualifications for participation.
